Sound Check: ASA Ransom @ Soda Bar

My friend Peter, who books the shows at Soda Bar, sent me a text message last night to get my ass down to bar for one of the not to miss shows of the year. I had to go see some friends DJ at the AC Lounge first, so by time I arrived to the Soda Bar ASA Ransom was already on stage. I was instantly blown away by the eclectic mix of energy and sounds coming from the stage. The look of the band resembled tpseudo gypsy mixed with late 1800’s and touch of new wave. The music was entrancing and the beats were dance worthy. Always great to see a completely new and amazing band. Check their myspace page for tour schedule and go see them play in your town!

Mancow gets waterboarded

Waterboarding: Erich Mancow Muller thought it was no big deal. This morning, he and co-host Pat Cassidy found out. Providing a first-hand account of the controversial interrogation technique, Mancow & Cassidy gave the listening audience and TV cameras a dramatic account.

With Cassidy providing commentary, Fmr. Marine Sgt. Clayton South covered Mancow’s face and stated that the average duration is 14 seconds. The procedure was over in eight seconds, but the effect on Mancow was most surprising to him. He was shaking for over an hour.

Definition of Waterboarding from Wikipedia.com
Waterboarding is a form of torture that consists of immobilizing the victim on his or her back with the head inclined downwards, and then pouring water over the face and into the breathing passages. By forced suffocation and inhalation of water, the subject experiences drowning and is caused to believe they are about to die. It is considered a form of torture by legal experts, politicians, war veterans, medical experts in the treatment of torture victims, intelligence officials, military judges, and human rights organizations. As early as the Spanish Inquisition it was used for interrogation purposes, to punish and intimidate, and to force confessions.

In contrast to submerging the head face-forward in water, waterboarding precipitates an almost immediate gag reflex. The technique does not inevitably cause lasting physical damage. It can cause extreme pain, dry drowning, damage to lungs, brain damage from oxygen deprivation, other physical injuries including broken bones due to struggling against restraints, lasting psychological damage or, if uninterrupted, death. Adverse physical consequences can start manifesting months after the event; psychological effects can last for years.

In 2007 it was reported that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was using waterboarding on extrajudicial prisoners and that the United States Department of Justice had authorized the procedure, a revelation that sparked a worldwide political scandal. Al-Qaeda suspects upon whom the CIA is known to have used waterboarding are Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Abu Zubaydah, and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri.

In January 2009 United States President Barack Obama banned the use of waterboarding. In April 2009 the United States Department of Defense refused to say whether it was still used for training (e.g. SERE) purposes.

Damien Wilson cuts off thumb at work.

My friend Damien Wilson recently cut off his thumb while sawing wood at work. He was cutting a few corners and hit a hard part in the wood that caused the saw to buck and cut the top joint off his thumb. He went to the hospital where the doctors could not re-attach the finger. And in Damien honored tradition he still has the rest of his thumb in a jar that he likes to show off to people. The above photo is from his new wheel ad for m1 urethane. The below pictures are from right after he cut his thumb.
