My friend Peter, who books the shows at Soda Bar, sent me a text message last night to get my ass down to bar for one of the not to miss shows of the year. I had to go see some friends DJ at the AC Lounge first, so by time I arrived to the Soda Bar ASA Ransom was already on stage. I was instantly blown away by the eclectic mix of energy and sounds coming from the stage. The look of the band resembled tpseudo gypsy mixed with late 1800′s and touch of new wave. The music was entrancing and the beats were dance worthy. Always great to see a completely new and amazing band. Check their myspace page for tour schedule and go see them play in your town!
Come out and see myself and C.Wizard spinning with Mr. Biggs and Huge Euge on Saturday the 13th at U31 on University Ave. for Bombs over North Park. We will be doing the opening set so come early!
This past friday Lindsey came and met me at work. I called it a day and we headed to Sicilian Thing on 30th Street for a slice of pizza. Suffering from immediate food coma we decided to walk next door to Hamiltons Tavern and have a beer. Even though Hamiltons has an insanely large beer selection i usually always just have a Russia Brewing Company Damnation Ale. After our drink we headed to my house and watched TV and relaxed.
We decided to head to the Beauty Bar for Sarah Knooks early birthday party. The place was packed and the bands were not so sweet. We hung around for only about half and hour before making our way to Soda Bar to get a shot. To our surprise there was an awesome Nintendo/Atari style electro band called Alpha Channel playing. We hung out for a while and had one more shot before heading over to U31 to meet up with Joe, Breezy, Ernie, Aries and Monkey. The rest of the night was spent dancing the night away.
Another Tuesday has come and that means go home after work relax for a bit, and then get ready for a fun filled evening of socializing at the San Diego Velodrome in North Park. I started my ride to the Velodrome by heading to Lefty’s Pizza (leftyspizza.com) off 30th Street and getting myself a couple of slices. I stopped by the liquor store after wards to grab a twelve pack and met up with my friend Ronnie to ride down to the track. We arrived a bit after seven and it was already busy. I instantly ran into a slew of people I knew. I kept the conversations short so I could grab my camera and snap some photos before the sun went down.
Tonight is the 4th or 5th night of the season. The races are a popular place for people to go and hang out during the late spring and summer season. A majority of the people hang out inside the bleacher area and actually watch the races in between sips of wine and crackers. Others just hang out in the grass outside the fence drinking beers, getting stoned and shooting the shit with their friends. It is a very relaxed environment and a lot more fun then just sitting at home on a Tuesday evening. Check out the San Diego Velodrome website here: sdvelodrome.com and the San Diego Fixed Gear community website here: sdfixed.com.
I was hanging out at my house with Ronnie last night and we get a call from our friend Anthony. He tells me that he is moving to Washingston state on Wednesday for the next sixth months for his work. He wants us to come hang out for his last night drinking on the town, so we jump on our bikes and ride down to bar pink to meet up with him and shoot the shit for a little while. We had a couple of drinks, some good times and wished him well travels before making our way home and passing out.
I had planned to meet Lindsey at AC Lounge on Thursday night for Boom Box after she got off work. I decided to go out with my friend Ronnie and meet her there later. We started out at bar Pink which was pretty busy but had some western band that was very boring. We rode out to my house and hung out for a bit before heading over to Kadan to have a cheap beer before heading across the street to AC Lounge. We run into Breezy and Ernie outside, who inform us that Ernie has a full bottle of Sky Vodka in the V.I.P. room. We walk through a near empty bar into the back room and I begin to poor vodka with Rock Star for us. We pretty much stayed in this room until the bottle was done and then made our way to the dance floor. Before we knew it the night was done, but for a dead Thursday we had a blast.
My friend Ronnie came out to Sunday Funday with us yesterday and shot some cool photos. We meet every Sunday @ 3:00pm at Morley Field in North Park to hang out, drink beers, play games and just have fun. Everyone is welcome to come hang out!
