Sound Check: ASA Ransom @ Soda Bar

My friend Peter, who books the shows at Soda Bar, sent me a text message last night to get my ass down to bar for one of the not to miss shows of the year. I had to go see some friends DJ at the AC Lounge first, so by time I arrived to the Soda Bar ASA Ransom was already on stage. I was instantly blown away by the eclectic mix of energy and sounds coming from the stage. The look of the band resembled tpseudo gypsy mixed with late 1800′s and touch of new wave. The music was entrancing and the beats were dance worthy. Always great to see a completely new and amazing band. Check their myspace page for tour schedule and go see them play in your town!

My friday w/ Alpha Channel @ The Soda Bar

This past friday Lindsey came and met me at work. I called it a day and we headed to Sicilian Thing on 30th Street for a slice of pizza. Suffering from immediate food coma we decided to walk next door to Hamiltons Tavern and have a beer. Even though Hamiltons has an insanely large beer selection i usually always just have a Russia Brewing Company Damnation Ale. After our drink we headed to my house and watched TV and relaxed.

We decided to head to the Beauty Bar for Sarah Knooks early birthday party. The place was packed and the bands were not so sweet. We hung around for only about half and hour before making our way to Soda Bar to get a shot. To our surprise there was an awesome Nintendo/Atari style electro band called Alpha Channel playing. We hung out for a while and had one more shot before heading over to U31 to meet up with Joe, Breezy, Ernie, Aries and Monkey. The rest of the night was spent dancing the night away.

Divine

I’ve always been a huge John Waters fan. I love his films and I love his Elizabeth Taylor, a.k.a. Divine. S/he is foul, rude, hilarious and disturbing. Jon Elliott was in Salzburg, Austira a couple of years ago and brought be back two Divine 7″. Cory Casey found this music video of Divine a couple of days ago. So rad…
